All set for spectacular live show “The Legendary Tale of U Va”

ĐBP - These days, at the Điện Biên district’s central gymnasium and the U Va Village Cultural House in Noong Luống commune (Điện Biên district, Điện Biên province), both amateur and professional performers, along with the graphic design team, are working tirelessly to rehearse, coordinate, and prepare props and visuals for the live performance show “The Legendary Tale of U Va”.  With meticulous preparations, the show is poised to leave a lasting impression on both locals and visitors alike.

The final rehearsal for “The Legendary Tale of U Va” held on the evening of March 11, drew significant attention from the public and tourists. After reviewing the performances, sound, and lighting systems, and incorporating feedback from representatives of relevant departments, folklore artisans, and leaders from the Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, specific adjustments were made. These included ensuring thorough preparation, maintaining a balance of solemnity and celebration, and crafting a cohesive script that seamlessly connects the past and present, highlighting the rich cultural heritage and pride of the Thái people.

To prepare for the show, over the past ten days, performers from three sectors-healthcare, education, and culture-in Điện Biên District have been hard at work rehearsing traditional dances and performance segments for the show’s three acts: The Legend of the Thái People (The Gourd Story) and their ancient cultural roots; the Legend of the Pieu Scarf and the Ban Flower Tree; and Xên Pang Festival - A timeless tradition symbolizing the connection between past and present.

Using a unique artistic approach, the show “The Legendary Tale of U Va” vividly brings to life historical legends and iconic folk dances of the Thái people, enhanced by tourism elements to create a richer cultural experience for visitors.

“The Legendary Tale of U Va” promises to deliver an emotionally engaging story.

Choreographer Lại Đức Vương from the provincial Ethnic Art Troupe shared: “The program features folk artisans and local amateur performers from Điện Biên district, alongside professional dancers. Additionally, stage actors will portray key roles such as Quan Cong, Young Man Lú, and Lady Ủa. At this point, all preparations are complete; rehearsals are conducted with great enthusiasm and precision. The script is innovatively designed, blending singing, dancing, music, and stage art, all meticulously choreographed. With a duration of nearly 40 minutes, I believe the show will deliver a deeply moving narrative to the audience”.

At the U Va village Cultural House in Noong Luống commune, local amateur performers are practicing intensively. Despite the sweltering heat, with sweat dripping down their faces, they remain dedicated, training for eight hours a day to perfect their performances and create an unforgettable experience.

Lò Thị Định from U Va village, Noong Luống commune, expressed: “Many movements in the performance are quite challenging, so we are practicing diligently to meet the choreographer’s standards. The dance instructors regularly guide and refine our movements. At first, we were unfamiliar with the choreography, but now we feel confident in executing the graceful and synchronized steps.”

More than 50 villagers from Noong Luống commune are participating in the performance. Despite their daily farming duties, they are committed to attending rehearsals on time and following the director’s and choreographers’ instructions. Vì Thị Phương from U Va village shared: “Although we are busy with farm work, we make time to practice. This show is meaningful because it helps our children understand and appreciate the traditions of our ancestors”.

To enhance the audience’s experience, the performance space is enhanced with modern lighting effects, including structured lighting, cool mist, and simulated rain, creating breathtaking and immersive visuals. The stage design incorporates the natural landscape of U Va Hot Mineral Spring Resort, U Va Lotus Lake, and Điện Biên’s mountainous scenery, featuring water wheels, ban (bauhinia) flowers, and rice fields-elements that blend grandeur with poetic beauty.

Technical setup of the lighting system is carried out for the event.

Nguyễn Toàn Khu from the New Advertising Company in Điện Biên Phủ city stated: “We have completed 100% of the preparations. All elements, including decorative lighting effects, the ban flower tree, and the water stage, are ready. This is the second edition of the show, and our team has worked tirelessly to perfect the stage and artistic space, ensuring a captivating and immersive experience for both locals and visitors”.

The show will be performed on the evenings of March 13 and 15 at the U Va village Cultural House in Noong Luống commune. As part of the 2025 Ban (Bauhinia) Flower Festival, this show is expected to become a signature tourism product for the province, fostering community and business engagement while showcasing Điện Biên’s scenic beauty and cultural heritage.
